Do you have a question not answered here?
E-mail it to info@thelilystone.com and find out!

  • Where is The LilyStone?
    • The LilyStone is located in the San Carlos community of San Diego, very close to Lake Murray and the 125.  To give a better picture of relative distances, it takes us 20 minutes to get to the farmer's market in Hillcrest (where we buy most of our produce for the week!) and 30 minutes to visit our friends in Encinitas.
  •  How old must my child be to attend?
    • All children, from infant to school age, are welcome at The LilyStone.  There are a limited number of infant (0-24 months) positions available, and a waiting list if offered when all spots are filled.  If you are wondering if there is space available for your child, give a call and know today!
  •  What are the hours and days of childcare?
    • The LilyStone is open 8:00am-4:00pm Monday through Friday.  We realize that every parent has a different schedule, and there is some flexibility.  Individual needs can be discussed during an interview.
  •  How many children attend The LilyStone?
    • The LilyStone is licensed to care for up to eight children.  However, the most children that will be in one class are six to ensure individual attention to each child.  The average class has four children.
  •  What does it mean to be ‘licensed’?
    •  It means that The LilyStone has met the requirements set by Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing Office of San Diego (California Code of Regulations, Title 22).   These requirements include (but are not limited to):

∼ TB Clearance, Background Check, and Fingerprints submitted to the state                  for the provider and all adults in residence
∼ Current First Aid, CPR and Health and Safety Trainings for the provider
∼ That the Facility License, Emergency Disaster Plan, Earthquake                                    Preparedness Checklist, Notification of Parents Rights Poster, and Notice of              Site Visit be posted in area accessible to parents
∼ That the provider keep a file containing emergency contact information,              record of immunizations, and other vital information for each child

  •  Must my child be immunized to attend?
    •  The state of California and The Academy of Pediatrics strongly recommend that all children be vaccinated.  However, it is not a requirement to attend The LilyStone, or any school/daycare program, provided that the parents sign a waiver stating their child is not vaccinated for personal or religious beliefs.
  •  Is there an additional fee for diapering my child?
    • There is no additional fee for diapering.  Parents are expected to provide diapers and wipes for their child, and any diaper rash creams when needed.

The following questions will be further discussed in publications offered to parents of attending children.  Please note that this list is being developed as more parents (like you) ask:
  • What does it mean to be ‘holistic’?
    •   The term ‘holistic’ is used to describe this program because every measure is taken to provide care that helps promote healthy rhythms/routines and balance in the physical, emotional, and mental life of each child.  Children thrive in the presence of devoted caregivers who find joy in living.  This is the foundation for learning and healthy development.  The child’s relationships to the caregivers and to the environment are the two most important aspects through which the child can experience healthy life rhythms/routines.  These include rest and play, regular meal times (filled with organic nutritious food!), exploring nature, practical/domestic activities, social creativity, music and simple artistic activities.
  • Why are toys made of natural materials important for children?
    • Young children live in a mood of ‘oneness’ with the world.  They internalize all that they come into contact with from their environment, and shape the physical form from these many influences.  It is common knowledge of the effects of stress on the human body.  As with many things, young children are affected more strongly by smaller quantities of such influences.  Therefore, it is highly beneficial for a child to be surrounded by an environment permeated with beauty, comfort, and soul enriching elements.  Toys made from natural materials retain their ‘soul quality’ and give life forces for the child to internalize, fostering healthy sense development. Further, human relationship, rather than technology, is the essential tool for teaching the young child all foundational skills for life.
  • Why is imaginative play encouraged?
    • Play is the work of childhood.   In our society today, there is increasing pressure to start academic studies at an earlier and earlier age.  It is important to remember that play is a valuable way children learn.
